The following text presents a fierce debate between an art historian and and anthropologist. It was provoked by the art historian's attempt to integrate the latter's concept of 'architectural anthropology' into the Eurocentric views of the history of art. Evidently the two hats are of a very different size. In order to get the big hat under the small one Regine Prange, art historian at the 'Institute for the History of Art' at the University of Tuebingen, simply cuts the big hat to pieces and thus manages to get the scraps under her small hat. Of course the producer of the bigger hat does not like this. His rather fierce answer is mainly due to his suspicion that the results of his research are purpously manipulated. In this context, the critical report gives very valuable insights into common mechanisms of manipulation in the field of the humanities.

Im folgenden kritischen Bericht geht es wesentlich um die Frage, ob Architektur-Anthropologie aus der Optik der europaeischen Kunsthistorie adaequat beschreibbar sei. Offensichtlich handelt es sich um zwei Huete recht verschiedener Groesse. Regine Prange, Kunsthistorikerin am 'Kunsthistorischen Institut der Universitaet Tuebingen' und Autorin des kritisierten Artikels loest das Problem auf hoechst einfache Weise. Sie reisst den grossen Hut nach Strich und Faden in Stuecke und stopft die Schnipsel mir nichts dir nichts unter ihr kleines Huetchen. Es versteht sich von selbst, dass da nicht eitel Freude herrschen kann. Der kritische Report zu diesem Vorfall eroeffnet interessante Einblicke in gelaeufige Mechanismen der Manipulation in den sog. Geisteswissenschaften.
